This workshop highlights the unique agency that young diasporic people take in straddling the analog and digital, the traditional and contemporary. I set up a workshop in which twenty participants watched one of YouTuber Maangchi’s videos to make kimchi. Maanchi, with 5 million subscribers, is famous for teaching Korean recipes. Having previously never made kimchi before, I was just another beginner at the workshop, reconnecting with my culture virtually. In the workshop, we connected culturally through food, with participants sharing each other’s dishes and swapping distinctive versions of kimchi to take home.
